This Special Release Pikachu Promo Aims to Be Super Effective On Speculators
Marking the arrival of a captivating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, an exciting partnership is underway. Pokémon's creators alongside London's Natural History Museum will launch a pop-up shop featuring exclusive merchandise. Fans will find offerings including stationery, plushes, and artwork all inspired by the museum's aesthetic. For collectors, though, is a limited-edition Pikachu card, given as a free bonus at the pop-up. The store will operate both the physical location and its web counterpart from January 26 to April 19.
The Book Behind the Collaboration
Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology represents a highly anticipated volume packed with stunning illustrations depicting creatures in their natural habitats. The concept is what a Pokémon Professor could produce after trainers submit their data, alternatively a naturalist's journal might have created had the famous islands were populated by flying-types instead of finches. Part of the charm lies in the book's serious approach, treating Pokémon as a legitimate subject for study. Writer Yoshinari Yonehara together with illustrator Chihiro Kinoshita each possess PhDs in ecology and behavioral science.
What Makes This Promo Card Different
The company regularly to issue to release promos for big events or brand collaborations. Many such promotional cards typically highlight the iconic electric rodent that acts as the series face. The factor setting this new promotion apart however, is the distinctly bigger size. Although precise specs have not been immediately shared, its distribution will certainly be strictly limited, and customers limited to only a single card with each transaction.
Limiting Speculator Interest
Per a company announcement, a portion of the pop-up items may also be available outside the institution itself. But, a wider release will only be specific stores in the United Kingdom. Importantly, fans will not be able to acquire the card via the official web shop. Although reseller interest is a given, it appears they're going to have trouble stockpiling large numbers this time around. If you're feeling left out, there is the upcoming Pokémon Fossil exhibit coming to the Windy City later this year.
"Every penny of sales made in the museum store and its web shop, which covers these items, go toward the Natural History Museum’s non-profit work. This includes the efforts of 400 scientists who are conducting studies to discover answers to the global ecological crisis," it says.
