Vince Gilligan Shares He Has a Plan for How Pluribus Will End... Currently.

The acclaimed writer-producer never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would turn into a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “I did not foresee the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

Now that Season 1 of the hit program coming to an end—and the next chapter greenlit and underway—Gilligan and his team opened up about the audience reaction and whether it will influence the future direction of Pluribus.

About the Overwhelming Audience Reaction

It would be easy to get sidetracked by the constant speculation and fan theories regarding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is striving to avoid both.

“It feels like constantly eating something incredibly sweet and being in a state of bliss,” he explains. “It's wonderful, but I hear about it from others, and that's intentional. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. It's quite the opposite. It's a deep trap I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

In spite of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s it's impossible to ignore the immensely favorable response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We make no attempt to adjust our writing,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not changed by audience chatter.”

“We prefer to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan concludes.

The Big Question: Has the creator See the Ending of Pluribus?

Considering the writers aren’t being guided by fan response, does that mean they already know how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? The answer is yes… in a way.

“We've developed some compelling concepts about where the show might end up,” Gilligan says. “but we are always ready to discard a solid concept for a superior concept. This approach has served us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we get a better idea and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Alternatively, if plans fall through, executive producer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to serve as a last resort.

“My recurring proposal is that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and we're in there,” he says humorously, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Then again, one could always use the classics?

“My dream is Carol to open her eyes with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV+.
